Saudi Arabia links 12 international cities by introducing the MEDEX service to Jeddah Port. The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced the launch of a new shipping service – MEDEX – at Jeddah Islamic Port, strengthening the Kingdom’s maritime connectivity across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
Operated by CMA CGM, one of the world’s leading shipping companies, the MEDEX service now connects Jeddah to 12 regional and global ports, including:
- Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali in the UAE
- Karachi, Pakistan
- Colombo, Sri Lanka
- Mundra and Nhava Sheva, India
- Piraeus, Greece
- Malta, Genoa, Fos, Barcelona, and Valencia in Europe

The MEDEX service is the 19th shipping line added to Jeddah Islamic Port in 2025, reflecting the Kingdom’s continued focus on expanding its logistics network. The addition of this new route is part of the broader vision of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) to boost operational efficiency, improve global port rankings, and reinforce the Kingdom’s role as a vital player in international trade.
Aligning with Vision 2030
Beyond regional ports, MEDEX extends its network to several major international hubs, including Mundra and Nhava Sheva in India, Piraeus in Greece, Malta, Genoa in Italy, Fos in France, and both Barcelona and Valencia in Spain. The launch is in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to:
- Increase the logistics sector’s contribution to the GDP from 6% to 10% by 2030

Jeddah Islamic Port: A Growing Powerhouse
Jeddah Islamic Port is Saudi Arabia’s busiest port and a key entry point for maritime cargo. Additionally, it has two ship repair docks and a dedicated marine services zone, making it one of the most strategically developed ports in the region. The port currently features:

- Advanced cargo-handling equipment
- Dedicated terminals for general cargo, re-export, and marine services
- Annual capacity of 130 million tonnes
The new service accommodates vessels with up to 10,000 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), further improving the port’s capacity and operational efficiency.
Global Recognition
